Tacheometric calculation of hairs for hair identification. 8. Conclusion. 1. Basic concepts Measurement of hairs is one of the important components of forensic science. In forensic science tacheometric measurements play a major role. Hair tacheometric studies can be divided into two groups: i) quantitative and ii) qualitative. The quantitative and the qualitative tacheometric studies are independent of each other. The quantitative tacheometric studies are carried out for species identification and qualitative tacheometric studies are carried out for hair identification and hair linking. The quantitative tacheometric studies and the qualitative tacheometric studies also have their specific methods and approaches, but the commonalities between them are also significant. The tacheometric measurement method for forensic science is often confused with the hair microscopy method. It should be kept in mind that the tacheometric measurement method is the most accurate method of tacheometric measurement while the hair microscopy method is the most popular and easy method of measuring hair. The advantage of the hair microscopy method is that it is economical and easy. It is also noted that it is unsuitable for hair measurement of longer than 40-50 mm. The most important point to be kept in mind is that tacheometric measurement cannot be used for species identification. Tacheometric measurement for species identification is different from tacheometric measurement for hair linking and hair identification. There are many factors affecting tacheometric measurement of hair. The most important factors are the nature of hair and the nature of measurement instruments. There is an influence of nature of hair on the tacheometric measurement of hair. The nature of hair is composed of cuticle and cortex. The cuticle is the outermost part of the hair and is composed of one layer of prismatic cells. The prismatic cells lie perpendicular to the hair axis and become parallel to the hair axis from the base of the hair. This layer is more flexible than the cortex. The cortex is composed of cortex cells which lie parallel to the hair axis and are surrounded by the cuticle cells. The cortex cells are denser
